Hightower Chair in Systems & Control Systems and Controls at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In August 2014, he joined the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, as a professor of electrical engineering. He is known for his early work in nonlinear and adaptive control, particularly on gain scheduling, robust control, and more recently, distributed systems. == Early life and education == Shamma was born in New York City and raised in Pensacola, Florida. He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1983 and a Ph.D. in Systems Science and Engineering from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1988.
